Description:
Mary's River Covered Bridge, constructed in 1854 by Wilhelm Misselhorn, a German immigrant, served continuously from its completion until 1930. In 2005, it underwent a state-led renovation. Spanning 90 feet, the bridge was originally built as part of a toll road connecting Bremen and Chester. It features a Burr arch design, utilizing native white oak timbers that have been carefully preserved. Today, it stands as the only bridge of its kind remaining in Southern Illinois.
