Located on the Marian University Campus, this historic home also knowns as Riverdale was built in the Arts and Crafts style between 1911 and 1914. The interior is equally as impressive with extravagant appointments such as a handcarved solid walnut staircase, a Gothic-style library, and a Louis XVI-style parlor. It was the home of James Allison who made his money in the auto and plane industry, founding the Prest-O-Lite company which produced headlights for early automobiles. There are rumors of hauntings by people who died tragically early in their lives. The Allison Mansion is located on the near-northwest side of Indianapolis at 3200 Cold Spring Rd. on the grounds of Marian College. The grounds are open to the public daily dawn to dusk.
