Nestled on 14 acres in Clinton, Iowa, the Bickelhaupt Arboretum began in 1970 when Bob and Frances Bickelhaupt transformed their backyard into a living classroom after witnessing the devastation of Dutch elm disease in their community. Today, the arboretum features beautifully curated gardens, labeled tree collections, and one of the Midwest’s premier conifer collections with more than 600 cultivars, all designed to educate and inspire visitors. Open year-round from dawn to dusk, this free public garden offers a peaceful setting to explore nature, seasonal blooms, and over five decades of horticultural history.
