Description:

Breitbach's Country Dining opened in 1852 in Sherrill, Iowa and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating restaurant and bar in the state. Jacob Breitbach purchased it in 1862 and the restaurant has remained in the Breitbach family for six generations, surviving two major fires before being rebuilt in 2009. Over the years it has served travelers as a stagecoach stop, tavern, and community gathering place while maintaining its reputation for hearty Midwestern cooking. Popular dishes include broasted chicken, pork tenderloin sandwiches, fried fish, shrimp, and a wide selection of homemade pies that many guests consider the highlight of the meal.
