Chained Rock

Although the "rock" looks like it is precariously perched, it is actually just part of the mountain. However, a widespread belief in the early 1900s was that it would one day tumble down and cause a catastrophe in the town below. To build on this myth a few men from Pineville decided to string a thick and heavy chain around the rock with 30 bolts keeping it attached. It is over 100 feet long and 1.5 tons. To get there take Chained Rock Rd. all the way east and you'll eventually find the trailhead.
