The first cantilever bridge in the U.S. was opened in 1873 and rises 275 feet above the Kentucky River. The 1,125-foot-long bridge was at that time the highest railroad trestle in the world. Today, it is the focal point of High Bridge Park which features a Victorian Pavilion, a overlook of the Kentucky River Gorge, a playground, museum, and picnicking facilities.
