Fort Proctor

Also known as Beauregard's Castle this War of 1812 fortress is slowly becoming submerged in the waters of Lake Borgne. After Hurricane Katrina it is completely surrounded by water. You can only see the fort up close by boat, an easy 20-minute trip. Or you can skip the boat and simply take pictures with a zoom lens from Shell Beach.
