Also known as Port Pontchartrain, this lighthouse is a fixture - standing for about 175 years. You may wonder what good a landlocked lighthouse could possibly do for a ship making its way home. At the time it was built it stood about 3,000 feet from the shore. Over the decades other building projects around the lighthouse extended the shoreline out and it was soon decommissioned.

Got reprimanded by a cop for trying to walk up to it to take a picture. There was no signage that I could see anywhere that said “don’t walk on the grass or approach the lighthouse.” But apparently be forewarned.
