A moderately paced, 5-mile round trip hike takes you to a lookout point that gives you a bird's eye view of Harper's Ferry and the Potomac River. There's also an old Union gun battery nearby. The hike will take you a couple miles uphill so you might want to leave the kids and the dogs at home. The best way to reach the lookout is to park at the Visitor's Center and take the free shuttle. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Make sure you bring plenty of water and allot at least 4 hours for this excursion.
