Description:
Middleton Tavern, founded in 1750 by Horatio Middleton, is one of the oldest taverns in the United States and has served as a gathering place for sailors, travelers, and notable early American figures including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Originally a ferry landing and inn, it became a central social hub during the era of the Continental Congress. Today the tavern preserves its historic charm while offering classic Maryland Tidewater cuisine. Popular dishes include Chesapeake Bay oysters, Middleton’s mussels, rockfish, and jumbo lump crab cakes.
