Description:

The sculpture in Lappin Park at the intersection of Essex and Washington Streets in Salem, Massachusetts depicts Elizabeth Montgomery as her iconic sitcom character Samantha Stephens from Bewitched, flying on a broom with a crescent moon framing her craft. Unveiled in 2005 and commissioned by TV Land for the show’s 40th anniversary, it celebrates the period during which the series filmed several episodes on location in Salem in 1970. While the statue has become a beloved photo op and tourist landmark, it also stirred local debate about tourism, pop culture commemoration, and how Salem engages with its more complex colonial history.
