Forgotten Children Sculpture

Purchased by the Hebrew Charitable Burial Ground in 1851, this cemetery remained ignored and neglected by the community until 2013 when activists cleaned up and restored the property. During this time it came to light that most of the 1,400 burials were those of young children, so this special remembrance was set up for them. The cemetery is a historical account of how infant mortality was tragically high among the Jewish immigrant population in the 19th century, but were given this sacred ground through an act of kindness so they could bury their children in accordance with Jewish laws.
