Located on 72 acres, this decently sized zoo is part of Boston's Emerald Necklace. The designer of the zoo, Frederick Olmstead, was a visionary in 1912 - he did not want the traditional zoo of caged animals. Instead, he wanted to design natural habitats for animals native to the region. Nowadays, with advanced technology, the zoo is able to keep a wide range of animals from around the planet - over 220 species.
