Description:

In 1791, Pittsfield prohibited playing baseball. Because the town supposedly has documentation alluding to this the resulting claim ironically is that Pittsfield is the birthplace of baseball. No other town has earlier documentation mentioning this all-American sport. To cement this claim, Pittsfield planted a 25-foot metal bat at the Glove of Shrubs park. The rusting bat is angled next to a baseball-like boulder and a shrub trimmed to look like a glove.
