Description:
This is one of the several entrances to Harvard Yard which is the oldest part of the Harvard University campus. It was completed in 1889 in the style of Georgian Revival - a gift from alumnus Samuel Johnston, class of 1855. The gate is also part of a long-standing annual tradition involving the sheriffs of Middlesex and Suffolk Counties riding horseback through the entrance.
