Description:

Belle Isle, in the middle of the Detroit River, is the home of this Eden-like greenhouse and botanical garden. It was opened in 1904 but it was named for Anna Scripps, the philanthropist who left her collection of 600 orchids to the conservatory in 1955. Designed by noted architect Albert Kahn, the conservatory takes its inspiration from the Crystal Palace in London.
