Description:
The Old Tavern Inn in Niles, Michigan dates back to 1835 and is recognized as the oldest business in the state still operating on its original site. First built as a simple log tavern along the stagecoach route between Detroit and Chicago, it served travelers with meals and lodging as the surrounding community developed. Over the years the building expanded and evolved while preserving parts of its early structure. Today the inn remains popular for hearty comfort food with favorites such as the hot ham sandwich on French bread, goulash, fried chicken, burgers, and chili dogs.
