Rainbow Falls near Ironwood is a short but scenic hike through the rugged beauty of the Ottawa National Forest, leading to one of the most impressive waterfalls along the Black River. The roughly half-mile trail features stairs and forested paths that descend to an overlook where the 40-foot cascade crashes into a rocky gorge, often creating a misty rainbow on sunny days. For those wanting a bit more adventure, you can extend the hike across a suspension bridge and connect to the North Country Trail for additional viewpoints and a longer trek.
