The origin of Detroit-Style Pizza traces back to Buddy’s Rendezvous Pizzeria on Six Mile and Conant street on Detroit's eastside. In 1946, Gus Guerra and his team crafted their inaugural square-shaped pizza using forged-steel pans borrowed from nearby automotive plants. The result was a remarkably light and crispy crust, now synonymous with Detroit-Style Pizza. This pioneering creation marked the inception of the first square pizza in the U.S. Today, over 75 years later, Detroit-Style Pizza has evolved into a beloved national favorite.
