Garrison, Minnesota is a town that claims to be the Walleye Capital of the World mainly because lake Mille Lacs is rated the most popular place in Minnesota to catch a walleye! Even the Minnesota state legislature designated the Official State Fish of Minnesota as the walleye in 1965 so it stands to reason why a giant walleye statue was constructed for all to see in 1980. This huge fiberglass Walleye Pike is 15-feet long and used in Garrison's annual parade. Today, the walleye can be seen along the shores of Mille Lacs where it is permanently installed.
