Gopher Ordnance Works Ruins

A gunpowder plant once employed 3,000 employees during its brief lifespan. Opened in 1943 to assist in the war effort, the plant closed in 1945 soon after WWII ended. Unfortunately, many farmers were evicted from their properties in order to build such a short-lived munitions plant. Today, some walls and supporting structures remain, although many of the smoke stacks were dismantled. The ruins are located right off of Angus Ave. and 160 St. E. There is a "No Trespassing" sign on the trail which can get you a citation.
