Description:

Grand Portage National Monument, located in northeastern Minnesota near the Canadian border, preserves an important site of North American fur trade history. This historic 8.5-mile trail was used by Native American Ojibwe people and European fur traders as a vital transportation route. Visitors to the monument can explore the reconstructed 18th-century fur trade depot, learn about the cultural exchanges between Indigenous peoples and traders, and experience the scenic beauty of the surrounding wilderness, including views of Lake Superior and the nearby Pigeon River.
