Description:

The freshwater Great Lakes Aquarium opened in 2000 on the Duluth waterfront. The aquarium's mission is inspiring people in exploration and connection to Lake Superior and waters of the world. Animals featured in the Great Lakes Aquarium are found in the Great Lakes basin as well as other freshwater ecosystems. Housing 205 different fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, the aquarium is one of only a few aquariums in the U.S. focusing on freshwater exhibits.
