Formerly known as The New Zoo, The Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, Minnesota opened on May 22, 1978. The zoo implemented a revolutionary design by utilizing more space for exhibits and organizing animals by their living environments instead of by species. The zoo also is the home of a high school, "The School of Environmental Studies."
