Mississippi Headwaters

This tributary is the source of the famous Mississippi River. It also provides much of the drinking water to the local community being filtered by the sandy earth and the surrounding foliage. There are nice hiking trails, a visitor's center, a cafe for lunch, and a gift store. Itasca State Park where the Headwaters are located is open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM but summers can get very crowded. Visit the website to make sure your visit won't require a permit.
