Description:
Built between 1856 and 1858 by Thomas Grant and Wilson Davis, the Pickwick Mill is one of the oldest flour mills in southeast Minnesota. Initially a water-powered sawmill on Big Trout Creek in Pickwick, it was later converted to a flour mill. As the first commercial flour mill west of the Mississippi River, it operated 24/7 during the Civil War, producing 100 barrels daily for the Union Army. Post-war, it became a flour-milling hub for southern Minnesota and parts of Iowa and Wisconsin.
