Description:
The Rock Island Swing Bridge, also called the Newport Rail Bridge or J.A.R. Bridge, spanned the Mississippi River between Inver Grove Heights and St. Paul Park, Minnesota. It had a double-decker design: the top level for trains and the bottom for cars. It was one of the few toll bridges left in Minnesota and had a toll of 75 cents before it closed to road traffic in 1999 and to rail traffic in 1980.
