Description:

This lake freighter, the SS William A. Irvin (named for William A. Irvin) sailed as a bulk freighter on the Great Lakes. It was part of the U.S. Steel's lake fleet. Launched during the depression in 1938-1975, she became the "workhorse of the fleet" until retired in 1978. Now the ship has been refurbished and moored at Duluth, Minnesota. The freighter now serves as a museum ship.
