Birthplace of Tennessee Williams

Tennessee Williams was born in the rectory of an Episcopal Church. The grandson of a reverend, Williams lived here until he was two years old. His birthplace had a huge influence on his works. While the rectory is most notable for being the place where he was born, it is also the place where emancipation has been celebrated annually since it was first announced in the town on May 8, 1865. The church continues its Eight O'May tradition to this day. (Photo by Gayle Ferguson Photography)
