Description:
Borroum’s Drug Store & Soda Fountain, established in 1865 in Corinth, Mississippi, holds the title of the oldest drug store in the state. Founded by former Confederate Army surgeon Dr. A.J. Borroum, the store has remained in the family for multiple generations, preserving a piece of Southern history within its walls. Over the years, it has maintained its original charm, complete with an authentic soda fountain where patrons can enjoy classics like root beer floats and malts. Beyond its rich history, Borroum’s is also known for its unique menu item, the “Slugburger”—a deep-fried patty made from a blend of ground pork, soy flour, and spices, served with mustard, onion, and pickle. Developed during the Great Depression to stretch meat further, the Slugburger was named for the nickel, or “slug,” it once cost, and it remains a beloved regional delicacy to this day.
