Mississippi saw a lot of action during the Civil War and Elvis' birthplace was one such battlefield. On a hot day in July, Union forces marched into Tupelo where the Confederate soldiers tried desperately but unsuccessfully to ward them off. 20,000 soldiers fought against each other in an important battle for the future of the U.S.
