This cave is the oldest operating show cave - open to the public since 1886. It used to be called MacDougal's Cave but because it played such an important role in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," the eponymous cave was renamed for the legendary author and resident of Hannibal. The inspiration for the scene where Tom and Becky are threatened by Injun Joe, this cave receives thousands of visitors every year.
