Garnet Ghost Town

If you're looking for a run-down, creepy, hazardous ghost town where you have to watch for potholes and compromised structures, this isn't the place for you. Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved, nicely maintained open-air museum, almost like a still-life photo of the late 1800s. Nestled in the Montana woods, this old gold mining town is one of the best values at three dollars per person. Open year round, at this town visitors can visit in the full bloom of summer or in the midst of a white winter. The government sponsored program is worth checking out - you can get paid to live here albeit without any of the technological niceties of the 21st century.
