Description:
12 million years ago a volcanic event in Idaho known as the Bruneau-Jarbridge event poured lava downward for 1,000 miles. Unfortunately for the animals, but fortunately for us, this formed a preserving blanket of ash which today gives us an incredible amount of information. Entire fossilized skeletons include rhinos, camels, horses, and other amazing prehistoric animals have been excavated. With the wealth of knowledge hidden below the surface this is still an active excavation site. To visit you must purchase a pass online. The park is open seasonally; it closes for the winter season. Check the website or call 402-893-2000 for opening dates.
