The Western Folklife Center fosters communication and idea exchange between rural and urban communities, promoting new avenues of expression. Since 1985, it has hosted the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, an event that celebrates and showcases the artistry and ingenuity of life in the American West. This annual gathering, the Center's signature event, evolves to reflect contemporary issues and realities of the region.
