Brackett Massacre Burial Ground

Saves: 8
Check-ins: 2
In Rye Historic District is the site of the 1691 Brackett Massacre. As told through the lens of a person writing in the 1930s, a band of 20 or so Native Americans killed 21 English settlers while they were harvesting hay. The original provocation is unknown, but in the end the Rand and Brackett families suffered the most casualties. Today, it is a favorite hiking area. The memorial marker is on the east side of Brackett Rd. Walking through the trees, you'll see some of their gravestones. (Submitted by Alison Brackett)
