Description:
This deep cleft in the earth is flanked by walls of granite that rise 70 to 90 feet high with a width of no more than 20 feet in some places. Extending about 800 feet, the gorge was discovered in 1808 although it was formed about 200 million years ago. Although the summer and fall are pleasant enough in temperature the gorge is the prettiest in the off season and you'll encounter less people.
