Blackwood Uniroyal Gal

Ed Werbany, Jr. in 2007 created this tire-clutching, superhero giantess he dubbed "Nitro Girl." He used an old Uniroyal Gal that was standing outside his dad's tire store since 1965. Nitro Girl was painted and dressed by two local women artists who gave her a facial, a pair of superhero gloves and boots, a headband, and a skirt filled with stars! Nitro Girl helps Ed sell nitrogen that fills tires for better fuel economy which in turn reduces America's dependence on foreign oil so you can say that this statue is patriotic in a sense. And as this 18-foot-tall statue gained fame she also sold something else - Nitro Girl bobbleheads! What a great country we live in, right?
