Hindenburg Airship Disaster Site

Saves: 8
Check-ins: 3
Lakehurst Maxfield Field is better known as the crash site of the Hindenburg Airship. In 1937 the German passenger airship caught fire and was destroyed while trying to land at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst. A total of 36 people were killed, but this was not an isolated incident. Other airship crashes hastened the decline of this mode of transportation. The memorial marker located near Hangar No. 1 is a cement outline in the shape of the Hindenburg which stretches across the airfield where it crashed. (Submitted by Ruth Hallam)
