Other names for the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge are the "Gorge Bridge" and the "High Bridge." This is a steel deck arch bridge across the Rio Grande and is the seventh highest bridge in the United States and 82nd highest in the world. Started in 1963 and completed in 1965, the bridge's span is 1,280 feet. In 2012, the bridge had a $2.4 million "facelift" that included structural steelwork, a new concrete deck surface, new sidewalks, ramps, curbs, and gutters.
