Description:
Until 2003, U.S. Route 491 was known as U.S. Route 666. The highway earned the nickname "Devil's Highway" due to the number 666, which many Christian denominations associate with the Number of the Beast. Coupled with the road's high fatality rate, this led to a belief that the highway was cursed. As a result, the name was officially changed to U.S. Route 491 in 2003.
