Born in 1858, Sallie Chisum was the niece of cattleman John Chisum with whom she lived after leaving her family home in Texas. After divorcing her husband she fulfilled her ambitions to be an entrepreneur, homesteader, and businesswoman. She is known as the First Lady of Artesia. Created in 2003 by Robert Summers, this bronze statue embodies the enormous inner strength of the women who lived during America's frontier days. (Submitted by Briahna Renee)
