Description:

During its inception, the Castle functioned as a luxurious retreat for numerous affluent guests in pursuit of the therapeutic benefits of the neighboring hot springs and invigorating mountain breeze. Yet, as the early 1900s unfolded, the prominence of extravagant American resort hotels diminished. Consequently, the establishment ceased operations, changing hands amongst various proprietors until philanthropist Armand Hammer acquired it in 1981. Under his stewardship, the estate underwent a remarkable metamorphosis into the esteemed UWC-USA campus we recognize today.
