Description:
Iván Argote’s Dinosaur (2024) is a monumental aluminum sculpture of a common city pigeon perched on a concrete plinth styled like a New York sidewalk, installed on the High Line at 10th Avenue and 30th Street. By transforming an often-overlooked urban bird into a towering public monument, Argote playfully challenges traditional ideas of who and what deserves commemoration. The sculpture’s title connects pigeons to their prehistoric ancestors, prompting reflection on evolution, survival, and humanity’s place in the natural and urban world. Installed in October 2024 as part of the High Line Plinth series, Dinosaur will remain on view through spring 2026.
