Description:

Ellis Island, located in Upper New York Bay, isknown as the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. It was the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954 (over a 60 year period). The island became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965 and features a museum of immigration.
