The Hallett Nature Sanctuary is the only permanently fenced-off section of Central Park occupying 3.5 acres of the wooded promontory that juts into The Pond. Set apart as a bird sanctuary by Robert Moses in 1934, it fell into disrepair until the 1980s when it was repaired.
