Description:
The Great escape artist Houdini died at the age of 52 on Halloween night and his final resting place was the Machpelah Cemetery, a Jewish cemetery in Glendale, Queens. In 1926 the Society of American Magicians held the first "Broken Wand" ceremony ritual to honor the deceased magician at his grave. Originally held on Halloween night, the ceremony was moved to November because of crowd control, vandalism, and partying. The cemetery is now patrolled on Halloween.
