Description:

The Lockport Cave refers to caverns lying beneath the city of Lockport, New York. One cave was formed naturally and the other was a hydraulic raceway constructed in the 19th century. The cavern is thought to cover an area of several square miles but it has been sealed since 1889 due to under funding and frequent flooding, so it's size still remains a mystery. The raceway was constructed between 1858 and 1900 and supplied water to local industries. The Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride is now the area's tourist attraction.
