This aquarium is the oldest operating aquarium in the U.S. The aquarium opened in Castle Garden in Battery Park, Manhattan in 1896 but, since 1957, it's been located on the boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The Wildlife Conservation Society operates the aquarium. Occupying 14 acres, the aquarium houses 266 species of aquatic wildlife.
