The Oculus

Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Oculus is an airy transport hub that serves the new World Trade Center. The shopping might be out of your budget, but you'll still find enjoyment seeing this magnificent structure up close. The large white building was constructed with steel wings reaching toward the sky. Calatrava's purpose was to evoke the image of a dove leaving a child's hands. This was achieved with a series of columns forming the 350-foot wings. A marvel both inside and out, this is a must-see destination while in New York. (Submitted by Nick Garant)
